It's all about timing...

So! Yesterday, Culley and I both hooked our commons at exactly 8am... This morning, Matt Downey landed this 19.06 at 7.55 am! If anyone from the winter syndicate fancies a fish, just drop in between 7am and 8.30 tomorrow...

Bite time!

Double trouble...

It's been a hard winter on Ashmead but the carp have finally awoken from their slumbers. This morning, Culley and I hooked commons simultaneously from completely different parts of the wetland and had the opportunity for a very rare double catch shot! Culley's fish was an unknown 17.08 and mine was a common that went thirty pounds for the first time, so all in all a good omen for the next few weeks and for the longer term future.

Happy times shared!

Big Fish Friday!

A perfect trip to the lake with Alistair followed by a brilliant day on the river... Opal at 37lb on his bull like nose at 3.30 this morning and then Ali caught a clonking 3lb 7oz perch from the river on a lure this afternoon. Spring is in the air, the birds are squabbling, the Goat Willows are in bud and the fish are on the move!

A "new" thirty...

Just great in every way! Lovely to see a good fish on the bank during the hardest winter I can recall and even better to see a "new" Ashmead thirty pounder. Greg Colman with Squires at 30.06

Squires at 30lb 6oz. A fish that isn't caught very often but a real beauty.

Owls sprites and common carp

A lovely morning with Chris, Ayla and Maisy at Ashmead, joined by a small common and Bracken the tawny owl. It was a bit like a scene from Harry Potter and just as magical...

It's been a very hard autumn, with cold easterlies in October followed by an early freeze. Only three fish have been out since the start of the winter syndicate but they can be caught.... A 29.04 from this morning. 36 hours looking, with twenty minutes effective fishing. Hopefully they are getting used to the idea that it's winter.

Time spent looking is time well spent...

The Winter Syndicate starts here...

Moonscale welcomed in the start of the Ashmead Winter Syndicate when she was landed last night by Greg Colman at 47lb... A warm few days in an otherwise cold autumn seems to have woken the carp from their slumbers. Hopefully a few more will be caught before we reach the depths of what may be a harsh winter judging by todays snowfall.

Autumn gold

As we move towards the end of autumn and the start of the winter syndicate, Rich Langley landed this lovely 30+ common. I'm looking forward to the winter months and getting the rods out myself!

Caught under the rod tip from Maxwell's Island on a day that felt more like winter than autumn.
