Ashmead Fishery 2022

Added at 14:46 on Tuesday 20th September 2022

16/09/2022
We are pleased to confirm that Ashmead Fishery is in a position to reopen from today 16/09/2022, some additional maintenance work to take place at a later date tbc.

6/9/22
Just a quick update regarding Ashmead.
As most of you will know, we closed Ashmead for fishing a few weeks ago. The oxygen levels around the lake, and the drop in water levels were giving grave course for concern, so we closed the lake and deployed aeration systems around the lake. At one stage we had 5 splash aerators and half a dozen ventura type pumps going, and whilst this helped with the oxygen levels in the areas they were deployed, due to the nature of the lake it’s been impossible to aerate the entire lake, but we have covered quite a lot of the lake, and todate it’s going well. I don’t want to tempt fate and we are not out of the woods yet, but the forecasted weather this week, coupled with the aerators and pumps we have running should hopefully see us getting on top of the situation and be in a position to safely reopen sooner rather than later.
I would like to thank everyone who’s been involved in helping out over the last few weeks. The actions of the Carp society in general, and the heroic actions of Justin and Trevor in particular have (so far) turned a potential disaster round. We’ve had a few people help out. But Justin and Trevor have gone well above and beyond and we owe them. So thank you both very very much. The lake will remain closed for the next week or so, the people with bookings will be contacted separately with an explanation. We will assess the situation over the weekend when hopefully we will have some positive news regarding reopening. Thank you all for your patience during this time, it’s been testing I know, more so for us I can assure you of that, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

Farewell to Ashmead

Added at 11:23 on Sunday 13th February 2022

All good things must come to an end, and it is with very mixed emotions that we have to let you know that as of 11th February 2022, we will be leaving Ashmead.

We have enjoyed an amazing 15 years, with many very happy memories of restoring the wetland and sharing it with so many good friends. It will be an especially poignant move for Skeff, who has enjoyed a connection with Ashmead for over forty years. At this point in our lives, new adventures are there to be explored and the time is right for us to move on.

From 11th February 2022, Ashmead Fishery will be owned and managed by The Carp Society. We are pleased to know that the wetland has a secure future, with a new owner that understands the ethos and values that have underpinned our own management: respect for the environment, the fish and the anglers who enjoy the unique Ashmead atmosphere.

We would like to thank everyone very much for the support, the friendship and the belief you have had in Ashmead and us, whilst we have looked after the wetland. It has truly been an amazing experience for us to have created and been custodians of such a special place. It will take some time for us to reflect on what we have all achieved at Ashmead but our memories will be happy and affirming ones.

We hope that you will continue to fish the wetland and appreciate all that Ashmead has to offer. We believe The Carp Society will carry on the custodianship of this special wildlife haven and fishery in the best spirit and maintain the essence of what Ashmead means too so many.

Thank you again for your friendship and your support. It has always been so very much appreciated.

With our warmest best wishes

Skeff and Shona

The day we bought the wetland.
The day we left Ashmead.
Best wishes to The Carp Society and Ashmead's future!

Winter 2021

Added at 13:50 on Sunday 28th November 2021

The winter syndicate got off to a flying start before the cold snap slowed things down….

James Grover enjoyed an incredible session. in which he caught Single Scale, JC and another big common. Fish were caught all over the wetland during the opening week and hopefully it is a good omen for the months to come.

James with Single Scale
JC, looking superb.
Alan with a lovely Ashmead common
